Outreach support programme

The transformation required for the efficient delivery of the CYP IAPT objectives requires not only visible and determined senior leadership, but also a dedicated programme of support to enable staff and managers across services to deliver the change. The learning from the early CYP IAPT partnerships found that this support is most appropriately delivered through the provision of:

  • Bespoke consultation and support
  • Whole team/service focused training

Consultation and support

The bespoke support offered recognises that service transformation and change has to be strongly led, and that the issues faced will be different across the partnerships. Typically the support offered could incorporate; critical friend support and challenge, project governance and progress reporting, implementation planning, and expert support on the clinical elements of the programme, for example evidence based practice, collaborative practice and outcomes monitoring.
The approach to this has to be flexible to respond to emerging needs and issues. In the early days the key areas of support are likely to be around:

  • Needs assessment
  • The identification of the issues and potential interventions, and
  • Collaborative intervention planning

As the partnerships develop and common issues emerge the focus of the collaborative may shift to establishing and supporting communities of best practice and the pursuit of continuous improvement is likely to increase.

Training programme

In addition to the consultation and individual support a bespoke package of support has been developed. The outreach programme aims to develop – with children, young people and their families – a collaborative culture across all partners. The programme aims to reach the wider workforce and comprises seven core elements:

  • Whole service transformation – implementation of CYP IAPT and sustainability
  • Implementation of routine outcome measures (ROM’s)
  • Authentic participation
  • Evidence based and outcome focused practice
  • Workforce development and planning
  • Health economics and finance
  • Business case development

The first four elements are delivered through a four-day programme for each partnership. The final three are likely to be delivered to partnership staff on a regional master class basis.
